The motorhome pitch overlooked this amazing bay
The motorhome pitch overlooked this amazing bay

As I made my way up the east coast from Bamburgh to just north east of Inverness, I was amazed at the beauty of the countryside around me. Also, though, s I drive over the Forth Road Bridge, the amazing structure to my right - the Forth Bridge. I couldn't spend much time looking as I was driving! But both bridges a testament to the engineering skills of those involved.

I popped into a couple of distilleries on route (it would be rude not to). I wasn't organised enough to book a tour, although one distillery was in a period when they didn't operate any tours.

Checking into the campsite at Rosemarkie, this small Camping and Caravan Site the photos I'd seen of it were all accurate. It is a good as damn it on the beach and my pitch overlooked the bay. From my seat I looked out to see over the grasses that separate the beach and sea from the campsite. Words really can't describe the beauty of this view. I wandered the 15 or so minutes down the beach to join the crowd on the spit that were dolphin watching at Chanory Point. It's a well-known spot to see bottle-nozed dolphins as they hunt for salmon. There were a few hanging around. I took what felt like hundreds of photos, most of which were of the sea without a dolphin in site! I did capture a couple, however.

Over night the wind got up some strength and the motorhome rocked! This continued into the day. I waited for a period of rain to pass before I wandered to find the Fairy Glen Falls. As I followed the path and stream, I was grateful for my waterproofs and walking stick, keeping me safe and dry. I got to the first set of falls and then the final one. It wasn't very busy and the sheer beauty of creation was awe inspiring. It was a chance for me to empty my head, to pray, reflect and think. It also provided some shelter from the wind.

On the way back, I stopped off at an excellent cafe for a spot of lunch, washed down by a local beer. I wasn't sure what to have so sticking to my Church of England roots, I opted for the homemade stilton and mushroom quiche. It was excellent.
